John and Mary (1969)

Starring: Dustin Hoffman and Mia Farrow

Not gonna lie to you, folks. This isn't a good movie, not in the strictest sense of what makes a good film, at least.

Enter John, emotional coward. Enter Mary, cute but calculating. They meet in a bar. Then they sleep together. Oops. It doesn't work out very well at first. However, in the usual tradition of the romantic drama, they eventually do get to liking each other better. Everything which happens takes place within the time of a single day, which is like, pretty cool.

I had to pinch myself a couple of times during this film, just to make sure I wasn't making things up. Dustin Hoffman has the weirdest lines, like for example, he and his friend are in a bar, and he says something like, "D'you think we'll get raped?" There's something else where he explicitly mentions how difficult are his "several months of sexual starvation". There are all these cliches of that generation, for example, there's this political rally, and at one point, everyone holds up the peace sign. Like peace with two fingers. And then there's this model in a jumpsuit, and she actually says "groovy". And I thought that word was reserved only for nostalgia films!
